Orian LaValle Atcheson was born January 20, 1930, to Orris and Ethel Atcheson in Algona, Iowa. Orian was one of eight children born to the couple and was raised alongside his siblings in Patterson, Iowa. He graduated from Patterson High School with the class of 1948. Orian enjoyed a good joke and always made it a point to mention that he graduated in the top ten of his class. There were nine students in his graduating class.

Orian was a soldier in the United States Army and served in Korea during the Korean War. After returning home, he began working with Thorpe Well Company. On November 5, 1954, Orian was united in marriage to Mariam Deskin. The couple traveled with Thorpe Well for several years before they built a home in Des Moines. Orian and Mariam were blessed with four children: Mark, Brad, Kris, and LeAnne.

Farming was always Orian’s first love. After purchasing their first farm in 1967, he supplemented the farming income through multiple jobs such as operating a Standard Oil fuel delivery service in Lucas and selling feed. As his children grew, he utilized his gift for sales and developed a successful career in that field, eventually retiring from Layne Western Water Well Company.

Orian loved to trade cars. He enjoyed good food and traveling. His family took several memorable trips in their motorhome; including trips to Arizona, Yellowstone National Park, and Maine. Orian was a private pilot and enjoyed flying. He was also active in his community. He served as a member of the Paul Revere Masonic Lodge in Lucas and worked with the Lucas County Town Council. Above all else, Orian enjoyed spending time with his family. He will be greatly missed.

Orian is survived by his wife of almost 65 years, Mariam Atcheson; children: Mark Atcheson, Brad (Gail) Atcheson, Kris (Lisa) Atcheson, and LeAnne (Daryl) McElwain; 13 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and siblings, Sheryl Weaklend and Rick (Donna) Atcheson. Orian was preceded in death by his siblings: Kenneth Atcheson, Ronald Atcheson, Duane Atcheson, Larry Atcheson, and Jerry Atcheson.
