Arlen Witt, 63, of Macksburg, died Monday, August 26, 2019 at the HCI Greater Regional Hospice Home in Creston.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 30, 2019 at the Macksburg United Methodist Church in Macksburg.

Private burial will be at the Moon Cemetery, south of Macksburg.

Open visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Thursday, with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Powers Funeral Home 601 New York Ave. in Creston.

Arlen Lee Witt, son of Russell E. Witt and Leila A.(Wheeler) Witt, was born on July 19, 1956 in Winterset. He graduated from East Union High School in Afton in 1974. Arlen then worked at Jimmy Dean’s in Osceola.

On August 23, 1975, Arlen married Barbara Eivins in Macksburg. They lived and worked in the Macksburg area. Four sons were born to this marriage. Arlen went on to work at the Co-op Gas Station in Lorimor. Next, he hired on with the Railroad. Arlen and Barb divorced in the late 1990’s.

Arlen and Brenda Bishop lived together for the past 20 years. In 2016, Arlen retired from Union Pacific Railroad, after working over 30 years. During most of Arlen’s life, he also worked for numerous farmers near Macksburg as a farm hand. Arlen loved fishing, hunting, farming, tractor pulls, coffee chatter and time with family. He also enjoyed the old western movies and listen to Buddy Holly and Elvis.

Survivors include his significant other, Brenda Bishop; four sons, Matt Witt of Afton, Drew (Crystal) Witt of Winterset, Travis (Jennifer) Witt of Macksburg and Brad (significant other Diane Goering) Witt of Winterset; 16 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; a sister, LeAnn (husband Greg) Tucker of Winterset; two brothers, Gary Witt of Tulsa, Okla. and Larry (wife Kay) Witt of Thayer, and many other nieces, nephews and other family.

Arlen was preceded in death by his parents, and a grandson, Zane Witt.
