Margaret Long

Margaret Long, 75, of Lorimor, died Friday, July 12, 2019 at the Afton Care Center in Afton. Open memorial visitation will be from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday July 16, 2019 with family receiving friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Powers Funeral Home in Afton. Private family burial will be at the Lorimor Cemetery in Lorimor, Ia. Memorials can be directed to the family.

Margaret Ann Long, daughter of Paul Milton Jordan and Mildred Audria (Vaughan) Jordan, was born on March 28, 1944, in Jefferson, Ia. She graduated from Lorimor High School with the class of 1962 and later graduating from the Americana School of Beauty in Des Moines, Ia.

Margaret lived for a time in Macksburg, Ia. where she worked as a beautician for several years. In April of 1975 Margaret moved to Lorimor, Ia., where she worked as an active mother and homemaker. She later started her own upholstery business from her home. Margaret also served her community as a part of the Lorimor City Council. Later she worked for Winnebago Industries for several years. On August 8, 1988, Margaret was united in marriage to Darrel Edwin Long in Tingley, Ia., continuing to live in Lorimor, Ia. Most recently she had worked as a cashier at Terribles Lakeside Casino in Osceola, Ia. until her retirement in April of 2018.

Margaret is survived by her husband Darrel Long of Lorimor, Ia.; a son, Merlyn Tucker of Jefferson, Ia.; two daughters, Candace (husband Alex) Ripperger of Afton, Ia. and Gailla (husband Jeff) McDonald of Norwalk, Ia.; step-daughter, Yolanda (husband Tom) Shields of Des Moines, Ia.; step-son Brian Long of Des Moines, Ia.; nine grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two greatgrandchildren; a brother, Merrill (wife Phyllis) Jordan of Canyon lake, Texas; a sister Shirley (husband Keith) Massey of Norfolk, Va.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents Paul and Audrey Jordan.
