George Edward Sanders

George Edward Sanders, 68, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2019 at Methodist Hospital West in West Des Moines.

George was born September 20, 1950 to George and Esther (Myers) Sanders in Des Moines. He was happily married to his wife Patricia Zika-Sanders for 19 years. George proudly served our country in the United States Army for 33 years. He was a POW in Vietnam for six months. George was the owner of George Sanders Cleaning Services which did cleaning for Acme Tools and Praxair in Des Moines and the cleaning of the Community Building and Jackson Buildings at the Madison County Livestock and Fair Association in Winterset. He was also employed at O’Reilly’s Auto Parts in Winterset.

Left to mourn his passing is his wife, Trish; sons, Kyle and Christopher (Brandi) Sanders of Des Moines; stepson, Raymond (Beth) Akers of Orient; stepdaughter, Tiffany Sprague (friend Anthony) of West Des Moines; sister, Linda Sanders of Des Moines; 7 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, June 20, 2019 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the VFW, 103 N. 3rd St., in Winterset. Military Honors will be presented by the VFW and the American Legion to honor their fallen comrade at 5:00 p.m.
