Jay B. Danforth, former Winterset resident, died at his home in Tampa, Florida, Thursday, Aug. 6. Mr. Danforth, who was 51 years of age, had been in poor health for a couple of years, and a heart attack caused his death.
He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Challen Danforth, a pioneer Winterset family, and had spent the greater part of his life in Winterset. He attended the Winterset schools, and here he was married to Miss Catherine Smith, daughter of the late Dr. Jessie Smith, June 1, 1911. They made their home here where he was engaged in the livestock business, until in the early 1920's, when they moved to Florida. He has been the owner and operator of a drug store there.
He is survived by his wife, and their two children: a son, Challen, who is with the U.S. Coast Guard, and is stationed at Baltimore, Md., and a daughter, Mrs. Jane Ortiz, who resides in Tampa. He also leaves two brothers, Fred and Alf Danforth of Winterset, and two sisters, Mrs. Lucille Hakes of Worland, Wyoming, and Mrs. Beulah Foster of Wichita, Kansas.
Funeral and burial services were held at Tampa.
