LaVerne “Pinky” Madsen, 91, of Winterset died Monday, March 4, 2019 at West Bridge Care and Rehab in Winterset.A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 11, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Winterset with a visitation/luncheon to immediately follow. A private family burial will be held in the Winterset Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the St. Paul Lutheran Church.
LaVerne June Madsen, daughter of Arthur and Jennie (Sears) Egger, was born June 30, 1927 on the farm in Adair County, Iowa. She graduated from Casey High School and was united in marriage with Eugene William Madsen on July 26, 1946.
Pinky worked at ASCS (Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Services) for 29 years before retiring. During her retirement she worked for Jackson Pharmacy for 5 years. She was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, the Hope Circle and the Quilting Group. She volunteered at the Madison County Historical Complex and the Madison County Chamber as well as serving in several offices in the NARFE Chapter 1864. Pinky enjoyed drinking coffee, tending to her garden and playing cards, especially bridge. Above all else, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend who cherished spending time with her friends and family.
Pinky is survived by her children, Greg (Carol) Madsen of Nevada and Connie (Doug) Jackson of Fort Collins, CO; four grandchildren, Michelle (Marcus) Wermers, Brian (Andrea) Madsen, Nate (Megy) Jackson and Nicole (Todd) O’Rourke and seven great-grandchildren, Theo Wermers, Kai Madsen, Ellory Madsen, Mia Jackson, Zoey Jackson, Ella Jackson and Kensi O’Rourke; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by parents, Arthur and Jennie Egger; her husband, Gene Madsen in 2014 and her brother, Herbert “Bud” (Norma) Egger.
