Elaine Riedesel, 78, of Afton, died Tuesday, February 12, 2019, at the Afton Care Center.

Celebration of life services will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, February 18, at the Powers Funeral Home in Afton. Pastor Ben Turner will officiate the service.

Burial will be at Lorimor Cemetery in.

Open visitation will be from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. Sunday with family receiving friends from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Sunday at Powers Funeral Home in Afton. Memorials are suggested to her family. Online condolences can be made at powersfh.com.

Elaine May (Smith) Riedesel, daughter of Dale Edwin Smith and Vera Evelyn (Verwers) Smith, was born on May 24, 1940, in Winterset, Ia. She went to country school at Williamson School House west of Lorimor, and after consolidation, Elaine attended school in Lorimor and graduated from high school there in 1958

Elaine was united in marriage to Raymond Tostenson and they were blessed with two sons, Rod and Dean. They resided near LaCross, Wis. until they later returned to the Lorimor area. Raymond passed away in 1962.

On April 29, 1966, Elaine married George Sylvester Riedesel on the Dale E. Smith farm west of Lorimor. George and Elaine farmed north of Afton since 1972, where they currently reside. Elaine took pride in being a homemaker and taking care of her family.

Elaine attended the Lorimor First Church of God and was active with the Women’s Missionary Society there. She was also the Church Treasure, song leader and a children’s Sunday school teacher for many years.

Elaine is survived by her husband George of Afton; two sons, Rod Tostenson of Creston and Dean (wife Gina) Tostenson of Sheffield, Ia.; granddaughter, Abby Tostenson of Leesburg, Va.; two sisters, Diann (husband Ben) Turner of Lorimor and Sue Ann (husband Terry) Neal of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. and sister-in-law Dorothy Camenzind of Omaha, Neb. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Raymond and daughter-in-law Marilyn Tostenson.
