Winterset, IowaDoug Slagter, 62, of St. Charles, died Monday, February 18, 2019 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, February 25, 2019 at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset, with family present during this time. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 26 at the funeral home with burial to follow in the Winterset Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family and online condolences can be left at Ochiltree.com.
Douglas Scott Slagter, son of Marion and Cordelia “June” (Vander Horst) Slagter, was born November 18, 1956 in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He attended schools in the Pella area and graduated from Pella High in 1975. Doug was united in marriage with Patty Rogers on January 1, 2000 in Winterset, Iowa.
Doug worked for the City of Pella for 16 years before working for the Family Center for 20 years. He was a known tinkerer who enjoyed woodworking, repairing vehicles, riding his motorcycle and watching NASCAR. Doug was a true jack-of-all-trades who could fix anything. He had a passion for hunting arrowheads and Indian artifacts. Most of all, Doug was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who cherished the time he was able to spend with the ones he loved.
Doug is survived by his wife of 19 years, Patty Slagter of St. Charles; mother, June Slagter of Pella; son, Elijah (Bobbi) Slagter of Pella; bonus-children, Brenda Jones of Bondurant; Josh (Erin) Rogers of Peru; two grandchildren, Kipptyn and Acelynn Slagter; four bonus-grandchildren, Nicole, Zoe, Patricia and Haley Jones; siblings, Debbie (Barney) Bushore of Newton; Diane (Dale) Beverage of Kimberly City, MO; Brenda Naaktgeboren of Colorado; Keith Slagter of Pella; nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Marion Slagter; sister, Vicki Shipal; and bonus-grandson, Wade Jones.
