Winterset, IowaDixie McDonald, 79, of Winterset, Iowa, died Saturday, February 16, 2019, at West Bridge Care & Rehabilitation in Winterset. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 22, 2019, at the Winterset Community Church in Winterset with Pastor Terri Miller officiating. Burial will be in the McDonald-Chase Cemetery at Madison County, Iowa.
Dixie was born on February 1, 1940 at Winterset to Kale and Lela (Sanders) Lucas. She was a graduate of Winterset High School and was married on August 31, 1958 at Winterset to Leonard McDonald. Dixie had been a lifetime resident of Winterset. She worked at Casey’s for several years and had previously been a daycare operator. She was involved in all of her kid’s activities thru the years, had belonged to several community organizations, and was especially fond of the Winterset Art Center.
Dixie is survived by her children, Bob (Marcia) McDonald of Texas, Jay (Frenchie) McDonald of Minnesota, Shelly (Brian) Gambrall of Colorado, and Sheryl (Brad) Hayes of Winterset; sisters, Shirley Daggett of Colorado and Donna Boor of Murray; sixteen grandchildren; and several great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Kale and Lela (Sanders) Lucas; husband, Leonard McDonald; son, Bryan McDonald; and one great grandchild.
Family will receive friends Friday from 9 AM until service time at the Winterset Community Church. Memorial may be directed to her family for a future designation.
