Marie was born November 2, 1932, in Booneville, Iowa, to Ella (McKinney) and Clarence Forret. She married Donald Thomas on October 8, 1955 at St. Patrick’s Irish Settlement Catholic Church in Cumming, Iowa. They were blessed with 45 years together before he passed away in 2000.

While working at Northwestern Bell, she met Don, then stayed home to raise their children. Later, Marie worked at Camelot Cleaners, Greyhound Accounting Center, and Principal Financial Group, retiring in 1994. Marie’s faith was very important to her and she attended St. Theresa Catholic Church. She was active in her children’s lives, being a Bluebird and Camp Fire Leader, active in PTA and a Blue Star Home designation. Nothing made Marie happier than attending all family activities and events. She played cards and Bunco with special friends, was known for her amazing goulash, and loved special times with her family and friends at Lake Okoboji.

Marie is survived by her children Dona (Ron) Adcock and Carla Thomas of Des Moines, Rhonda McMurtrie of Nampa, ID, and Todd (Marya) Thomas of Urbandale; grandchildren Joshua Adcock, Matthew (Alicia) Adcock, Colton Marcellus, Kaylie Marcellus; and great-grandson Mason Adcock; siblings Catherine Shannon, Duane (Phyllis) Forret, Ila (Jerry) Hightshoe, Kay Boston, Jay (Marla) Forret; sister-in-law Jane Thomas; brother-in-law Darwin Thomas, Sr; and a host of family and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, in-laws Hazel and Arthur Thomas, brother-in-law Chod Thomas, sister-in-law, Lois Thomas, brother-in-law Dean Boston, and son-in-law Mike McMurtrie.

Contributions may be made to the family for memorials to be decided at a later date.
