Larry Lemon, 76, of Winterset died Friday, December 14, 2018 at his home surrounded by family.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 21, at the Fairview Congregational Christian Church south of Stuart with burial to follow in the Fairview Church Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family for a later designation and online condolences can be left at Ochiltree.com.

Larry Dean Lemon, son of James and Annabelle (Kephart) Lemon, was born November 7, 1942 at his Aunt Dutch’s house in Greenfield, Iowa. He attended school in Greenfield and was united in marriage with Joyce Elaine Smith on October 9, 1960 at the Fairview Congregational Christian Church.

Larry worked at Fullerton Lumber in Greenfield and transferred to Carson as a manager. He worked many years at the Farmers Coop & Lumber in Creston as assistant manager. He started a building business with friend, Roger Roberts and brother, Gene. He also worked for a time at Do It Best in Creston before driving a Mack truck for Schildberg’s in Greenfield. Most recently, he enjoyed working construction with his cousin, Rick Lemon. Larry loved carpentry and worked many years as a self-employed carpenter. He was a skilled finish carpenter who loved working with his hands.

He was a member of the Fairview Congregational Christian Church and the Mason Crusade Lodge #386 in Greenfield. Larry was a classic car enthusiast, who loved to rebuild cars and trucks and attend car shows. His favorites being Corvettes and Tri-Five Chevys. He was an avid reader who also enjoyed going fishing with his grandkids. Larry cherished spending time with his family and was always the one they would call for help with their construction projects.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 58 years, Joyce Lemon of Winterset; children, Tonnie Lemon of Bristow, Tresa (Randy) Diehl of Newton, and Tina (Jeff) Thompson of Winterset; six grandchildren, Tory Scherer, Angie Dydell, Christopher Pollard, Owen, Noah and Logan Thompson; two great grandchildren, Jaden and Carson Dydell; siblings, Bob (Linda) Lemon of Warsaw, MO, Bev Adams of Knoxville, and Gene Lemon of Alvin, TX; sisters-in-law, Judy (Larry) Lents of Dexter and Jeanne (Tim) Pierce of Winterset; nieces, nephews, many cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Annabelle and a daughter, Tammy.
