Richard "Dick" Marquardt

Richard “Dick” Marquardt, 75, of Van Meter, died Monday, November 19, 2018 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

A memorial visitation with family present will be held from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., Saturday, November 24, 2018 at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset. A prayer service will conclude the visitation at 5:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the Oncology Department at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Richard Eugene Marquardt, son of Eugene and Dorothy (Baker) Marquardt, was born January 6, 1943 on the farm in Madison County. He graduated from De Soto High School in 1960. Dick was united in marriage with Jacquelyn Simpson on January 17, 1964 in Adel, Iowa.

Dick worked for the De Soto elevator and farmed for the Duff Company and Bill Adams. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church near Van Meter and the De Soto Lions Club. He enjoyed gardening, flowers and visiting the Mississippi River and Branson, Missouri. Nothing was more important to Dick than family. He loved taking his children and grandchildren fishing and never missed any of their school activities. Above all else, Dick was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who cherished nothing more than spending time with the ones he loved.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 54 years, Jackie Marquardt of Van Meter; three children, Robert Marquardt of Van Meter; Cindy (Keith) Williamson of Winterset; Sandra (Jason) Aherns of West Des Moines; eight grandchildren, Cody (Paige) Marquardt, Katelyn (Adam) Bradshaw, Ben Williamson, Tanner Marquardt, Drew Williamson, Emma Thornburg, Braeden Aherns, Ainsley Aherns; one great grandson; sisters, Yvonne (Larry) Ory of Earlham; Judy (Clark) Brittain of De Soto; a brother, James (Linda) Marquardt of Winterset; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Dorothy Marquardt.
