Howard Carl Bricker passed away on September 28, 2018, at age 81 surrounded by his family in Los Angeles, California. He was born in Earlham, Iowa to parents, Carl Otis and Doris Irene Robison Bricker.

Howard enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1956 and after his service he enrolled at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Business Administration. In 1961, Howard took a job at the Central National Bank in Des Moines, Iowa, where he met his future wife, Noreen Smith. They were married on June 30, 1961. They were blessed with two sons, Aaron Dodd and Andrew Steven in 1962 and 1963, respectively.

Howard accomplished more than most. He worked at the C.I.A. in Langley, VA for four years, and in addition, became an Economist in 1967 with U.S. Department of HUD in San Francisco. He was later transferred to HUD’s Los Angeles office and worked his way up to Chief Economist. After 34 years of federal service, he retired from HUD.

His idea of retirement was to become a substitute teacher the next 14 years with the Long Beach Unified District.

Howard was continuously active in the Real Estate Research Council of Southern California and also a member and an officer of the Long Beach Masonic Lodge #327 as well as the Scottish Rite. He also served as treasurer for N.A.R.F.E. as well as a Board Member of the Iowa Picnic Committee.

Howard will be sorely missed by his family. He is survived by his wife, Noreen; son, Andy; daughter-in-law, Karen; grandson, Geoffrey; granddaughter-in-law, Alma; great-grandson, Derik; great-grandson, Dominik; granddaughter, Talor; grandson-in-law, Kris; granddaughter, Callie; great-granddaughter, Nikki; and Lee, daughter-in-law. Howard touched many, many lives. He will truly be missed by all who knew him.

Services will be held on October 28, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Long Beach Masonic Lodge #327, 3610 Locust Ave., Long Beach, CA 90807.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at the Earlham Cemetery.
