Steven Dean Ray

Steven Ray, 64, passed away Saturday, September 22, 2018 at the Winterset Care Center North in Winterset, Iowa. Memorial Services will be held at 3:00 PM Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at Pearson Family Funeral Service & Cremation Center, 809 W. Montgomery Street, Creston, Iowa. Pastor Rick Titus, Officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 PM Wednesday, prior to the service. Interment will be in the Graceland Cemetery, Creston, Iowa. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.

Steven Dean Ray, the son of Eldon Eugene Ray, Sr. and Shirley Jane (Clark) Ray, was born in Creston, Iowa on July 13, 1954. Steven was educated in the Creston Public Schools and graduated with the Class of 1972 from Creston High School. During his High School days, Steven participated in sports, including football and wrestling. A few years following graduation, Steven was employed at Wellman Dynamics, but only worked a very short time. Due to ill health and disability, he has been unable to work a steady job for many years. Steven enjoyed collecting coins and stamps and had accumulated a good size collection. Steven was united in marriage to Chris Elaine Hoffman and two children were born: Tisha and Shane. The couple later divorced. In 2017, Steven was honored to be selected for induction into the 1st ever Creston High School Wrestling Hall of Fame. Steven has lived in various places across the United States and Canada but lived the majority of life in the Creston area.

Preceding Steven in death was his parents; 3 brothers: Don, Eldon and an infant baby Ray; sister, Kay Johannes.

Left to cherish Steven’s memory is his daughter, Tisha (T.J.) Parrott, Altoona, IA; his sons: Harold Coverdell and significant other, Alli, of Willmar, MN and Shane (Kathy) Akers of Leon, IA; 10 grandchildren; brothers: Ron (Dora) Ray, Jim Ray and Richard Ray, all of Creston; Sisters: Joan Medill and Pat (Denny) Marquardt, both of Eugene, Oregon; a sister-in-law, Jerri Ray of Orient, IA and a brother-in-law, Bernard Johannes of Pocohontas, IA; many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
