Harry J. Fredericksen, 77 of rural Linden passed away on Monday, September 24, 2018 surrounded by family at his home. Visitation will be held from 6-8 P.M. on Sunday, September 30th at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Stuart. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, October 1st at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Stuart. Burial with military honors will be at Dexter Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be direct to Harry Fredericksen Memorial Fund and sent in care of Johnson Family Funeral Home, PO Box 246, Stuart, IA 50250.

Harry was born on December 24, 1940 at Menlo, Iowa to Harry Sr. and Florence Fredericksen. He attended rural schools in Adair County and Stuart Schools. Following his schooling, he enlisted in the United States Army. After returning home, he worked as a farm and ranch laborer.

Harry married his wife Shirley on June 18, 1965 at Falls City, Nebraska. In 1967, Shirley and Harry bought their home south of Linden. In 2005, the couple with the help of their family built a log home, where they remained the remainder of their lives. He worked for Huff Well Company in Winterset, then began working at Oscar Meyer in Perry in 1966 a job he worked for 23 years. He later worked at Farmer’s Co-Op at Linden for 10 years and lastly Xenia Rural Water until his retirement.

In his spare time, Harry loved hunting, coon hunting, fishing, canoeing on the river and German Shepherd dogs. Harry raised pigeons for several years and attended numerous sales in Perry. Harry liked playing slow-pitch softball and watching football. He and Shirley enjoyed dancing. Most of all Harry loved spending time with his grandchildren and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirley; and siblings: Phyllis Hayes, Pearl Yeager and Phillip Fredericksen.

He leaves behind his sons: Rick Carter of Guthrie Center, Dave Carter of Dexter, Danny Carter of Dexter and Jerry Carter of Dexter; grandchildren: Jeff (Yvette), Ginnie (Joel), Shannon, Dawn (Zack), Justin (Brandie), Jessie, Mandy, Lacy (Allen) and Cody; 26 Great-Grandchildren; eight Great-Great-Grandchildren; siblings, Pat Thompson and Tom Fredericksen; and a host of extended family and friends that will miss him dearly.
