Martin A. Emerson, 88, of Nevada, Iowa died May 5, 2006 after complications from surgery. He was born on July 31, 1917 in Peru, Iowa. Marty retired to Nevada after many years of service to the Des Moines Independent School District as a maintenance electrician. He was a proud member of the IBEW during his career, and also a member of the VFW after his service in the US Army Air corps during WWII.

Marty was blessed to have two special relationships during his lifetime. He was married to Irene for 52 years, until her death in 1993. Ruby Jackson was Marty’s loving companion over the past 10 years. Marty enjoyed spending time with his friends and family in all his favorite pastimes, including fishing, bowling and playing cards. He treasured spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. All who were blessed to know him, family and friends alike will miss his dry wit, sense of fun and gentle spirit.

He is survived by his three children: M. J. (Nancy) Emerson of West Des Moines; Lynn (Rod) Vicker of Nevada; and Connie Emerson of Gladstone, Oregon. He has 9 grandchildren: Marty (Kris) Emerson, Ann (Mark) Percak, Michael (Christi) Emerson, Michelle Emerson, Melissa (Jerrod) Robinson, Mark Emerson, Rob (Amie) Vicker, Lisa (Cody) Eigenheer and Patrick Emerson. He is also survived by 11˝ great-grandchildren.

Visitation for Marty will be held on Monday, May 8th at Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada, Iowa. The family will present from 6 to 8 p.m., with a formal remembrance of Marty’s life at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 9th at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Nevada, Iowa with internment to follow at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Kidney Foundation.
