W. M. Emmerson was born in Dark Co. Ohio April 6th 1826. Was married to Elizabeth Cook in 1850 and the two had lived together more than half a century. They moved to Smith Co. in ’79 and lived there until three years ago when they moved to Esbon where they have since resided.

On last Thursday morning Mr. Emmerson was taken with a severe attack of pneumonia and paralysis of the brain and grew rapidly worse, from the first the doctors had no hopes for his recovery. Dr. Hawley of Burr Oak was summoned in consultation, and the case was pronounced hopeless. Everything possible was done to relieve the sufferer but at five o’clock on Saturday morning he passed away.

Five of his children were at his bedside the others being at too great a distance to arrive in time to be with him in his last hours.

Funeral services were held in the Christian church on Wednesday, and Thursday morning the body was taken to Courtland for burial.

The bereaved family have the sympathy of every friend In Esbon.

EMERSON: --Fell asleep in Jesus at Esbon Kansas, Sabbath morning Feb 13, 1904. William Emerson aged 74 years 10 months and 7 days. Bro. Emerson was born April 6, 1829 in Darke Co., Ohio. Over thirty years ago he heard and believed the last message of mercy to this world, and ever since has shown an unwavering faith in it by a consistent godly life. It was plainly to be seen by the respect shown by the towns people, and the business men of all occupation closing their places of business and in a body attending the funeral service which was held in the Christian church that his consecrated life, and earnest devotion to the cause of his master, had won the respect and love of all who knew him. He was the father of eleven children, eight of whom still live, and mourn with a dear loving mother, the wife of the deceased. The text “An enemy hath done this” furnished the basis for the words of comfort spoken by the writer. L. F. Trubey.
