JOSEPH W. MARSHALL

Joseph W. Marshall was born in Madison county, New York, October 25, 1835, and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Lurena Aberwald, at Minneapolis, Kansas, April 14, 1923, at the advanced age of 87 years, five months and nineteen days.

He was married to Miss Caroline Oliver in Livingston county, Illinois, in the year 1857. To this union seven children were born, three of whom are living. In 1865 Mr. Marshall with his family, moved to Hickory county, Mo., where Mrs. Marshall died in the spring of 1870. In 1874 he moved to Madison county, Iowa, where he continued to live until 1883, when he moved to Kansas, where he lived the remainder of his life.

He leaves to mourn his death three children, Mr. George Marshall of Blair, Neb., Mrs. Lurena Aberwald of Minneapolis, and Mrs. William Farnsworth of Topeka, Kan., also fifteen grandchildren and thirty-five great grandchildren.

During the later years of Mr. Marshall’s life he made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Aberwald, where his declining days were passed in peace and quiet, brightened and made more pleasant by the devotion and loving care of his daughter.

He lived a useful, blameless, and industrious life. He enjoyed the sunshine of many of life’s joys, and drank from its bitter cup of sorrow. In the fullness of time, and the human extremity of age, he has passed from this sphere of earthly activity to that boundless realm of future life, loved and mourned by his surviving relatives, and honored and esteemed by his friends.
