OBITUARY OF HENRY SHANNON IS GIVEN

Henry U. Shannon, son of the Enoch and Mary Huggart Shannon was born n Madison county, Jan. 8, 1872 and passed away suddenly at his home Friday, Nov. 18, about 12:15 following a heart attack.

At the age of six he came to Atlantic with his parents. He was married to Minnie Mae Carter in Atlantic, Jan. 9, 1985 (1895), and in 1902 they moved to a farm south of Anita, where they lived until moving in their present home on Maple street in 1938.

Surviving are two sons, Maurice of Anita, Byrle of Santa Maria, Calif.; three daughters, Mrs. Lester Scholl of Anita, Mrs. Vera Garland of Davenport and Mrs. C. W. Twinam of Walpole, Mass.; also 19 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. H. F. Harris and Dolly Shannon of Des Moines and a brother, Hal Shannon of Tucson, Arz. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Edgar, Thomas and Samuel, and three sisters, Jessie, Edna and Dora.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Nov. 20 at the Anita Methodist church. The Revs. W. L. Hawn and Lester Gatch officiating. Interment was in the Anita Evergreen cemetery.

SERVICES ON SUNDAY FOR HENRY SHANNON

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Anita Methodist church for Henry Shannon. The Revs. W. L. Hawn and Lester Gatch officiated at the service.

Mrs. Eric Osen, accompanied Sidney Larsen in singing “Rock of Ages” and “Beyond the Sunset” Mr. an Mrs. A. R. Kohl and Mr. and Mrs. B. W. Roberts took care of the flowers. Casketbearers were Wayne and Jack Shannon, Dwight Gard, Joe Shubert, Don Rossow, and Harold Wahlert. Interment was in Evergreen cemetery.

Mr. Shannon, 88, died at his home here, shortly after noon Friday.

Transcriber's notes: Middle name taken from son's Iowa Delayed Certificate of Birth. Mother's maiden name is "Hughart" per her parent's gravestone in the Atlantic Cemetery.
