Arthur Neal Day was born February 2, 1938, in Decatur County, Iowa; the son of Oscar and Hazel (Helton) Day. He graduated from Winterset High School in 1957 and served in the Army National Guard from 1954 to 1960. His marriage to Marilyn Lyddon took place on October 20, 1958, in Van Meter, Iowa and to this union three children were born, Dan, Mike and Marcia.

He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in St. Charles and had been a member of Earlham Church of Christ for many years, where he served as Deacon.

Neal started his working career at Bizmart Supervalu before he started farming which he did the rest of his working years. He raised registered Appaloosas and enjoyed showing and judging them. He served on the board of the Midwest Appaloosa Association and was also a member of the National Appaloosa Association.
Neal loved football and during his high school years was offered an athletic scholarship to Iowa State which he turned down so he could fulfill his dream of farming. All this said, he loved family most of all and cherished the time he could spend with them.

Neal is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marilyn Day of Winterset; his three children, Dan (Lori) Day of Earlham, Mike (Tammy) Day of Urbandale, and Marcia (Greg) Hendricks of Winterset; siblings, Max (Joyce) Day of Cedar Rapids and Don (Nancy) Day of Runnells; eleven grandchildren, Brent (Angie) Day, Deanne (Tony) Hemker, Amanda Day, Amy Day, Ethan (Amanda) Day, Drew Harris, Reid Harris, TJ Hendricks, Reed Hendricks, Wyatt Hendricks and Sami Jo Hendricks; four great-grandchildren, Gavin Day, Blake Freese, Jordan Litts and Vyla Houg.
