Andrew M. “Pete” Peterson, 84, of Adel, died of cancer Thursday, Sept. 13, 2001 at University Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Des Moines. The body was cremated, and no services were planned.

Andrew Peterson was born March 31, 1917 near Winterset to Andrew L. and Marie Peterson. He married Alta Hill on April 23, 1938, at Des Moines. He lived in the Des Moines area before moving to Adel 15 years ago. He was a retired salesman for B. G. Peterson Co. in Des Moines and was a Navy and Coast Guard veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Capital Masonic Lodge, Za-Ga-Zig Shrine and the Audubon Society, and he enjoyed flying small airplanes and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Alta; two daughters, Dixie Nixon of Duluth, Minn., and Janita Christenson Hilts of Des Moines; a sister, Buena Howe of Indianola; five grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Fisher Funeral Home in Adel handled the arrangements.
