Ronald Clair James
MARCH 25, 1924 ~ JUNE 28, 2018 (AGE 94)

Ronald “Ron” James, 94 of Fair Oaks, CA passed away peacefully on June 28, 2018.

Ron was born in Orient, Iowa on March 25, 1924, the youngest of three children to Riley James and Annabelle Halling James. [Ron] married the love of his life, [Ruby] on March 31, 1945 and recently celebrated his 73rd wedding anniversary.

Ron joined the United States Army January 24, 1945 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas and was honorably discharged August 27, 1946. During this term he served as a clerk typist and was the organist for the chaplain while stationed in Hawaii. He was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.

Following his service in the army, Ron spent his career as a farmer in Iowa and later as an accomplished and self-taught machinist and craftsman in Southern California.

Ron had many hobbies throughout his life. His love for music continued past his army days, and would share his lovely voice with family while playing the piano and organ. In his retirement years he also enjoyed early morning garage sale hunts searching for long-forgotten antiques which he would later restore and resell.

Ron valued family, instilling the importance of love that is evident through five living generations. Some of the family’s fondest memories are the enormous family reunions they hosted, filled with games, fun and laughter. Ron particularly enjoyed telling stories to his family about “life on the farm”.

Ron, the patriarch of the James family is survived by his bride Ruby, his son Danny James (Joyce), his daughter Cathie James-Robinson (Kathy), 6 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. Ron and Ruby built a deeply connected family filled with love for each other and others.

Funeral services will be held on July 10. The funeral service will be held at 1:45pm at the Sacramento Valley National VA Cemetery, 5810 Midway Road, Dixon CA. Preceding the funeral service, visitation and viewing will be held from 11am-12pm at Price Funeral Chapel, 6335 Sunrise Blvd. Citrus Heights, CA. A reception will be held following the funeral service at Cattlemen’s Restaurant, 250 Dorset Ct., Dixon. All are welcome to attend to celebrate Ronald’s life.

The family of Ronald James wishes to thank Whitney Oaks Care Center, Sojourn Hospice, and the Sacramento VA Medical Center for their care and dedication. The family would also like to thank the Davis and Sacramento Threshold Choirs for their gift of music to Ron in his final days.
