Joan E. Cox, 88, of Winterset, Iowa, died Thursday, June 28, 2018, at West Bridge Care & Rehabilitation in Winterset. Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, July 3, 2018, at the Union Chapel Cemetery in Madison County, Iowa with Pastor Bob Rhoades officiating. No visitation is scheduled. Burial will be in the Union Chapel Cemetery.

Joan was born on March 8, 1930, at Winterset, Iowa to Lester and Clarissa (Matthews) Janes. She had been a lifetime resident of Madison County and was a graduate of Patterson High School. She was married on January 25, 1948 at Winterset, Iowa, to Lee Cox. Joan had worked as a cabinetmaker for Fawn Engineering in Des Moines for many years. She was a good cook and loved to bake. Joan enjoyed sewing, gardening, music, camping, and friends.

Joan is survived by her children, Dixie Grimes of Des Moines, Gene (Janelle) Cox of Winterset, and Marvin (Denise) Cox of Winterset; several grandchildren; and several great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Clarissa (Matthews) Janes; husband, Lee Cox; son, Harry Cox; brothers, Tom Janes, Bill Janes, and Pete Janes; and sisters, Rosie Clear and Velma Hall.

Memorials may be directed to HCI Hospice.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home – Collins Chapel in Winterset.
