Kenneth E. King, 58, of 3300 Beaver road, area conservationist for the U. S. Soil Conservation Service, died of a heart attack Saturday in Iowa Methodist Hospital. He was admitted Friday to the hospital.
Mr. King had been with the Soil Conservation Service since 1935 and had been in Des Moines five years. He previously served at Fort Dodge and Ames.
He was born in Maxburg and was a 1927 graduate of Iowa State College, where he was a member of the Farm House fraternity and the Alpha Zeta honorary agricultural fraternity.
After graduating from Iowa State, Mr. King served eight years in Manson public schools as a teacher and baseball and basketball coach. He developed the school system’s vocational agriculture program.
Mr. King was a member of Holy Trinity Church and its Holy Name Society, was past grand knight of the Knights of Columbus in Ames and was the current president of the Iowa Chapter of the Soil Conservation Society of America.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Rita Carey King, a native of Manson; a son, Kenneth Joseph King, Waterloo and two daughters, Mrs. Mary Anne Dale of Bettendorf and Mrs. Alice Jane Martin of Fort Dodge; two brothers, George of Lorimor and Elton of Winterset, and 16 grandchildren.
Services are being arranged by the Caldwell-Brien Funeral Home.
