John W. Graham, a resident of Birmingham, Van Buren county, but for the past ten days a patient of the Soldiers’ Home hospital, died this morning at 7:30 o’clock, after an illness with uremia.
Mr. Graham was quite a well-to-do man and in his earlier days was a resident of Winterset. For two terms he was recorder of Madison county. He has been suffering from prostatic trouble for several years and came to the hospital in hopes of obtaining relief from a seeming fatal malady.
He was a trooper in Company D, First Iowa cavalry, enlisting at Winterset June 13, 1861. He served practically thruout the entire war and was discharged at Davenport Sept. 9, 1864.
Mr. Graham leaves a wife and three children, two of whom are grown and reside at Winterset. A brother, Rev. J. D. Graham, of Quimby, has been with him during his last illness, as has also another brother, Rev. Abel Graham, a member of the Home.
The remains will be taken to Birmingham for interment, leaving this evening over the Central.
