Guy Kirsch of Minnesota Drowned Yesterday While Bathing.
The treacherous Little Sioux river yesterday claimed its annual victim for this vicinity. While bathing near the Pilot Rock bridge at about 3 o’clock in the afternoon a young man named Guy Kirsch was drowned. Together with four others he was in bathing and doubtless was seized with cramps when in mid stream. One of the parties had swam across the stream and Kirsch attempted to do so. When about half way over he was seen to throw up his hands and heard to shout. The man who had swam across hurried to his assistance and succeeded in getting hold of him, but was obliged to let go in order to save himself. Kirsch was not seen again until the body was recovered some time later.
The young man’s parents reside at Pipestone, Minn., and he had been staying with his brother, Walter Kirsch, who lives on the McMurrin farm, since last September. He was past 21 years of age, having been registered last year. The body was brought to the Schmidt undertaking rooms and prepared for shipment to Pipestone.

Page 8, Column 2Jake Kirsch and brothers, Will and Leo, and sister Mrs. Fred Smith, returned Friday night from Pipestone, Minn., where they went to attend the funeral of their brother Guy Kirsch.
The mail reporter was misinformed as to the death of Guy Kirsch occurring in Minnesota. It occurred in the Sioux river, in Cherokee county. He was 22 years old and had many friends here as he spent the summer here 2 years ago. His call to report for duty at Camp Dodge came the day he was buried. The body was taken to Pipestone, Minn. for burial.
