Marshall Cope Jr., 68 of Earlham passed away on Monday, May 14, 2018 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Memorial visitation will be held from 10 A.M. until noon on Saturday, May 19th at the Johnson Family Funeral Home – Earlham Chapel. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Marshall Cope Memorial Fund and may be sent in care of Johnson Family Funeral Home, PO Box 119, Earlham, IA 50072.
Marshall was born on December 30, 1949 in Port Huron, Michigan. At the age of 5, he moved to Dallas, Texas. In 1990, Marshall moved to Iowa; lastly living in Earlham. He worked many years at Smart Industries in Des Moines before his retirement. In his spare time, he enjoyed star gazing, watching the History Channel and listening to blues music; especially B.B. King. He was a lifelong fan of the Dallas Cowboys. He was a member of the National Diabetes Foundation and the American Cancer Society.
He was preceded in death by his parents James “Red” and Bettyjean Adams; sister and brother-in-law, Ardith and Pete Abrahamsen; and sister in law, Linda Cope.
He is survived by his son, Chuck Cope III; grandsons, Garth and Dillon Cope of Plano, TX; siblings: Garry (Sharlotte) Cope of Ft. Worth, TX, Novella Cates of Farmersville, TX, Cynthia (Nick) Teague of Dallas, TX, Barbara (Frank) Marchello of Walnut, CA, Mike Cope of Waxahachie, TX, Steve (Rhonda) Cope of Ft. Worth, TX, David (Goldene) Cope of Irving, TX; former wife, Linda Rote Cope of Dexter; and a host of extended family and friends that will miss him dearly.
