The death of Chas. E. Appleton occurred at his home here after an illness of eight months. Charles Appleton was a lifelong resident of O’Brien county with the exception of one year.

Charles Edwin Appleton was born at Winterset, Iowa on February 22, 1870. He was the son of Abel Appleton and Mary Bridgford Appleton. The family moved to this county, settling on a farm near Archer in 1871.

Here Charles grew up and was educated. In the year 1900 his father passed away and a year later his mother. Then Charles and his sister Addie moved to Sheldon.

On June 27, 1925, he married Mrs. Lulu Clark. The couple went to Long Beach, Calif., where they made their home until last year. Three brothers have preceded him, Robert, James and William. Besides the wife there are two brothers who survive him, Clarence, of Sanborn, and Chester, of Toronto, S.D., and three sisters who share his loss, Mrs. Lulu Bilsland of Sheldon, Mrs. Geo. Watson of Archer, and Addie Appleton of Sheldon.

Funeral services were held in the Congregational Church on Tuesday, in charge of Rev. Edwin Booth. Interment was in the East Lawn cemetery.
