Doris Gilbertson, 70, of Churdan, formerly of Creston died Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Celebration of Life Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, April 21, 2018 at the Powers Funeral Home 601 New York Ave. in Creston. Burial will be in at the Moon Cemetery near Macksburg. Visitation with family receiving friends will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Service time Saturday at Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Memorials may be directed to the family. .

Doris Jean Gilbertson was born November 25, 1947 in Council Bluffs, IA to Otto Barnes and Edna Belle (Simpson). Doris grew up in Creston. She was blessed to have a twin brother Darrell Eugene but she never hesitated to tell everyone that she was the oldest and the best twin. Two more boys, Don and Bob were born to complete the family. They all moved to Creston in 1955 where Doris attended school.

Doris married Larry Gilbertson on August 14, 1965 in Creston. They were blessed with three children, Brenda Sue, Shelley Marie and Danny Ray. Tragedy struck November 27, 1981 and they lost Brenda to be with the Lord. Doris worked at various jobs throughout her married life but the one she loved best was working for her pastor and church in Jefferson. To her, what was most important was spending time with her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. She loved her church, her collections, Elvis and dancing but most of all her family. Doris was a people person and collected friends to add to her family wherever she went. She was a longtime member of the Assembly of God Church in Jefferson, IA.

Doris is survived by her husband Larry Gilbertson of Churdan, IA.; daughter Shelley (fiancé Wade) of Scranton, Ia.; son Danny (Michele) of Jefferson, Ia, grandchildren Star, Robin, Robert (Bubba), Elizabeth, Cody and Sadie and her great-grandchildren Aiden, Izaiah, Bentley, Kaylee and Mia, her brothers Don Barnes of Creston, Bob (wife Jean) Barnes of Atlantic, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Edna Barnes, her daughter Brenda, her twin brother Darrell, her parents-in-law Ray and Clara Gilbertson and many relatives and friends.
