Clarence E. Lowden

Clarence E. Lowden, 97, of Winterset, Iowa, died Wednesday, April 18, 2018, at West Bridge Care & Rehabilitation in Winterset. Military memorial graveside services will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, April 28, 2018, at Union Chapel Cemetery in Madison County, Iowa.

Clarence Eugene Lowden was born on September 1, 1920, at Dexter, Iowa to Ernest E. and LaVonna (Linn) Lowden. Clarence graduated from Patterson High School with the class of 1939. On September 11, 1942 he married Lorraine Gentry at Savannah, Missouri.

He was inducted into the US Army on September 10, 1942 and after basic training was assigned to the US Army’s 76th General Hospital. Clarence was discharged on December 7, 1946, after 3 years and 3 months of service, of which 1 year and 9 months was served overseas. He served in battles in Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and the African Middle Theater.

He had spent most of his lifetime in Madison County and during his working years, Clarence farmed and was employed by The Winterset Monument Co., Circle B Cashway, and he retired from The Madison County Secondary Roads.

His favorite past time was flying his planes and going to fly-ins. He was fortunate enough to continue flying into his 80’s.

Clarence is survived by his son, Larry (Ricki) Lowden of Winterset; daughter, Lynne (Denny) Peterson of Winterset; grandchildren, Brenda (Steve) Pearson, Blaine (DeAnn) Lowden, Beth (Jim) Agan, Andy (LeeAnn) Peterson, and Ashley Tucker; and great grandchildren, Mackenzie Pearson, Mariah Bowman, Bryce Bowman, Emma Lowden, Ava Lowden, Nora Lowden, Peyton Agan, Carson Agan, Ava Ahart, Kaydence Ahart, Mack Peterson, Addison Tucker, and Brayden Tucker.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and LaVonna (Linn) Lowden; wife, Lorraine Lowden; and grandson, Darren Lowden.

Memorials may be directed to HCI Hospice or Patterson United Methodist Church.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Caldwell-Parrish Funeral Home, Collins Chapel in Winterset. .
