Margaret Georgia Carson (Bussanmas), retired teacher and mother of seven children, died peacefully in her sleep at her home in Port Liberte, Jersey City, New Jersey, on Wednesday, March 21, at the age of 93.
Margaret was preceded in death by: her parents George Bussanmas and Margaret McNamara Bussanmas; her aunts, Mrs. Frank Cassidy and Mrs. George Burch; her husband, Raymond Walker Carson; her daughter, Margaret Carson Szumowski; and her son, Michael Raymond Carson.
Survivors include: her daughters, Patricia Carson of California, Georgeen Carson of Illinois, Kathleen Carson-Asher of New York, and Christine Kuramoto of Wisconsin; and her son, Steven C. Carson of Washington DC; her 9 grandchildren, John Szumowski of California, Anna Szumowski Effort of California, Rachel Berman Calhoun of New Jersey, Abraham Corrigan of Illinois, Elizabeth Corrigan of Illinois, Emily Carson of Washington DC, Mieko Kuramoto of Wisconsin, Margaret (Maggie) Carson of Washington DC, and Stacey Carson of Washington DC; her 4 great grandchildren,Peyton Olivia Calhoun of New Jersey, Madison Riley Calhoun of New Jersey, Aleksander An-Ling Szumowski of California, Natalia Xuan-Ling Szumowski of California.
Margaret Georgia Bussanmas was born November 26, 1924 in Des Moines. She attended Simpson College, Indianola, from 1940-1942 and University of Iowa, Iowa City, from 1946-1947. She taught first grade in Martensdale, Iowa.
Margaret Georgia Bussanmas Carson and Raymond Walker Carson MD were married June 9, 1948 at Church of the Assumption, Churchville, Warren County, Iowa.
The Carson family lived in Winterset, Iowa (Madison County) for 21 years. In 1971, the Carson family moved to Waterloo, Iowa (Black Hawk County). Husband Raymond Walker Carson retired from the practice of Family Medicine in 1995. Margaret and Raymond Carson moved to Friendship Village in 1997. Margaret Georgia Carson moved to Port Liberte in 2017 to be with family.
Services: 10:30 AM St. Edwards Catholic Church, Waterloo, Iowa on Saturday, April 14, 2018 with entombment in Mount Olivet Mausoleum, Waterloo, Iowa. Public visitation will be for one hour before services at the church on Saturday.
