Lancaster.

Charles Henry Lancaster, a veteran of the civil war, and for eight years a resident of this city, died at 11:15 Sunday forenoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. C. M. Perdue, 308 1/2 South Second avenue. Mr. Lancaster’s death was due to dropsy, following a six months’ illness.

Mr. Lancaster was born in Lexington, Ky., Dec. 6, 1846. As a young man he moved to Clayton county, where he was united in marriage with Jane Campbell. Five years later the family moved to Winterset, where a residence was maintained for about thirty years. Mrs. Lancaster died while on a visit to relatives at Bassett, Chickasaw county on June 12, 1899.

Mr. Lancaster saw over three years’ service in the civil war, and had a fine war record, participating in many engagements, and receiving four gunshot wounds. His service was with the famous Crocker Iowa brigade, as a member of Company H. Sixteenth Iowa infantry. Mr. Lancaster was shot twice thru the body, once thru the leg, and at Shiloh received a bullet thru the right wrist, which left him a cripple.

Six children survive Mr. Lancaster, three sons and three daughters, all living in this city. The sons are James H. and W. M. Lancaster, 308 1/2 South Second avenue; Charles E. Lancaster, West Linn street; Mrs. P. M. Griffis, 212 South Center street; and Mrs. Perdue and Miss Helen Lancaster, 308 1/2 South Second avenue.

The funeral will be held from the Perdue home Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock, interment following in Riverside.
