Bernice Cox Rites Held

Funeral services for Bernice Ina Cox, 80, of Perry, former Bagley and Herndon resident were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, at Bagley United Methodist Church, with interment at Greenbrier Cemetery.

Murdock-Timeon Funeral Home of Perry was in charge of arrangements. The Rev. Arthur Hill of Bagley officiated, and Mrs. William Stanley of Bagley was organist. Casketbearers were Tom Cox, Eddie Cox, Dale Cox, Frank Kuster, Kenneth Hoyt and Doug Becker, Jr.

Bernice Ina Cox was born December 25, 1899 on her parents farm near Macksburg in Madison County, one of four children of Sidney Delbert Delaplain and Lunette Foster Delaplain. She was reared and attended school in Macksburg area and was graduated from Macksburg High School in 1918.

On December 1, 1926, she was united in marriage with Ervin Fletcher Cox in her parents home in Greene County. The couple farmed in Madison, Webster, Greene and Guthrie Counties in Iowa. To their marriage, three children were born.

Mrs. Cox was a farm wife until her family was reared, then she worked as an aide in Greene County Hospital in Jefferson from 1956 until 1964 when she suffered a car accident. Since 1966, the couple lived in Herndon, Bagley and most recently in Perry, where Mrs. Cox died at her home May 30, of a heart attack.

She enjoyed hobbies of reading, sewing, gardening and raising flowers and had been a member of the Bagley United Methodist Church, and the Rebekah Lodge No. 432 of Bagley.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her one brother, Clayton Foster Delaplain of Menlo, in 1979; two sisters, Mrs. Ethol (Velma Rhea) Rhoads of Macksburg, and Mrs. Keith (Edrie Vella) Hoyt of Bagley and one infant child, Ina Glee Cox.

Surviving are her husband, Ervin Cox of Perry; her daughter, Mrs. Ed (Erva Lu) Hutchings of Boone; her son, Sidney Clair Cox of Panora; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
