Miss Fern Enola Shutt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Shutt, was born March 4, 1904, in Warren county, southeast of St. Charles, and died in the General hospital in Des Moines, November 5, 1930, aged 26 years, 8 months and 1 day.

When an infant she had infantile paralysis from which she never fully recovered, but was able to get up and around. She was taken ill last September and was some better, but suffered a relapse, from which she never recovered. She was taken to Winterset last Tuesday for treatment, and on last Wednesday afternoon she was taken to the General hospital in Des Moines, where she passed away at 7 o’clock.

She leaves her parents, her twin brother, Fon, her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. G. H. McCrea, four aunts, Mrs. J. D. Clanton, Mrs. Louisa Miller, Mrs. Lillie Rooney and May Myers, two uncles Will and Walter Shutt, and many other relatives.

Funeral services were conducted in the M. E. church last Friday afternoon by the Rev. Gans, of Jefferson, a former pastor of the Christian church here. There was a large attendance at the funeral. Burial was made in the St. Charles cemetery.

The family have the sympathy of the entire community, as Mr. Shutt was hurt last March by a wild horse and has been confined to the house and under the doctor’s care most of the summer. He has also been in a hospital in Des Moines and was operated on, but is able to be up and around again.

Fern Shutt, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Shutt, passed away at the hospital in Des Moines Wednesday evening.
