SERVICES TUESDAY FOR JOHN GARRETT

John Garrett, 72, prominent citizen of Adair and Madison counties, died Thursday, March 8, at Medford, Oregon, of tuberculosis. He had been in Oregon two years, going from Adair county. The funeral was held Tuesday at the Middle River church with burial in the Roberts cemetery.

John Garrett and his wife lived many years near Middle River and had a wide acquaintance in Madison and Adair. He served one or two terms as supervisor of Adair county. He was a brother-in-law of Everett Drake and Thomas Wise and is survived by three daughters.

John L. Garrett

John L. Garrett, son of Soloman and Sarah Jane Garrett, was born in Adair County October 7, 1863 and died at his home in Medford, Oregon, March 8, 1934.

On March 4, 1885 he was married to Sarah Elizabeth Drake to which union were born 3 daughters, Edna Irene Piper of Letcher, South Dakota; Essie G. Small of Medford, Oregon, and Gladys Erma Roberts of Greenfield. His wife died June 7, 1917 and on June 18, 1920 he was married to Miss Edith Foley of Los Angeles, California.

He conducted a store and post office in Webster for three years, otherwise his birthplace was his home until in 1921 he moved to Eugene, Oregon where he lived for one year. Returning to his home farm in Harrison township he again took up farming for six years.

In 1930 he moved to Greenfield where he resided a little over a year then moved to Medford, Oregon where he and Mrs. Garrett owned and operated a Karmel-Korn and confectionery shop. He lived there until his death at the age of 70 years, 14 months and 18 days.

He leaves besides his wife and three daughters, two sisters, Mrs. Emma Moffitt of Livingston, Montana, and Mrs. Frances Mapes of Winterset; four grandchildren Doris and Mansell Piper of Letcher, South Dakota, and Lucile and John Roberts of Greenfield, a step brother Alvin Phillips and two brothers in law Everett E. Drake and Thomas J. Wise, both of Winterset.
