Funeral services for Ralph Jones, 63, of Truro, were held Friday, April 20, 1979. Jones died Tuesday, April 17 at the Winterset Hospital. Rev. David Wagner of Truro officiated the 1:30 p.m. service from the Christian Church in Truro, Iowa. Interment was in the Young Cemetery, Truro, Iowa.
Ralph Jones was born in Burrell Township, Decatur County, Iowa, September 1, 1915, the son of James Francis and Sarah Effie Harris Jones. He attended the Decatur and Madison County Schools and June 29, 1942 was united in marriage to Georgia Mae Hess in Bethany, Missouri. They were the parents of three children.
He operated the DX Service Station; was a charter member of the Lions Club; affiliated with the Truro Christian Church; a member of the Truro Businessmen’s Club; served 20 years on the Volunteer Fire Department and served as fire chief for two years.
He is survived by his wife, Georgia of Truro, Iowa; son, James A. Jones and wife, Faye of Winterset, Iowa; daughters: Janet K. Thornburg and husband, Roger of Baxter, Iowa; Sandra J. Jones and fiancé, Gary Baker of Des Moines; five grandchildren, Gregory, Melissa and Douglas Jones; Brian and Sherlyn Thornburg; three sisters, Mabel McCain of Des Moines, Iowa; Wilma Dilliner of Des Moines, Iowa and Doris Rhodes of Whittier, California. Five brothers, Harold Jones and Rev. Howard Jones, both of Des Moines, Vere Jones of Grand Junction, Colorado; George Ronald Jones of St. Charles, Iowa and John W. Jones of Seattle, Washington.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
