Mrs. W. G. Caskey Very Ill at Indiana Home

Adams county friends of the Caskey families will regret to learn that Mrs. W. G. Caskey, of North Manchester, Ind., is critically ill with only slight hopes of recovery. Mrs. Caskey is 74 years old, and is suffering from a heart ailment. Her sons, O. C. Caskey of Corning and J. T. Caskey of Bedford, went to Indiana last Thursday and returned home Sunday after a short visit with their mother. Rev. Homer Caskey of Omaha, is also with his mother at this time. Friends here hope for more encouraging reports from Mrs. Caskey soon.

OBITUARY

Almeda Ursula Holmes was born in Madison county, Iowa, March 28, 1861 and departed this life at her home in North Manchester, Indiana, December 28, 1935, aged 74 years and 9 months.

She was married to W. G. Caskey in 1879, who preceded her in death Oct. 11, 1920. To this union were born nine children, all of whom are now living except one son who died in infancy. They are: Nevin of Collins Montana; Homer of Omaha, Nebr.; Floyd of Reedley, California; Olaf of Corning; Leo of Lenox; Arlie of North Manchester, Indiana; Judson of Bedford and Mrs. Bessie Littlefield of North Manchester, Indiana; she also leaves three brothers Frank of Long Beach, Calif; William and Earl of Truro, Iowa; two sisters, Mrs. Beryl Patterson of Truro, Iowa, and Mrs. Audrey Chapman of Derby, Iowa; 22 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, as well as numberless friends throughout the middle-west.

She and her husband united with the Church of the Brethren, forty-five years ago and remained faithful to the teachings and ideals of God to the end. She was one of the eight charter members of the Salem congregation of the church, all of whom have preceded her except Mankin Wray, of Prescott.

After a short but impressive service at the home in Indiana, Sunday afternoon, conducted by her pastor, Rev. Hartsaugh, her remains were brought to the home of her son, Leo, Monday evening and funeral services were held at the Salem church last Tuesday afternoon at two o’clock, conducted by Rev. Charles Colyn and was laid to rest beside her husband in the cemetery nearby.

Mrs. Caskey’s life was one of an unassuming nature but was full of good deeds, as a mother in the home, a teacher in the Sunday School and a worker in the church. Her duties on earth are ended but their results will survive for years to come by her influence in others who have been made men and women because of having known her.

Those who attended the funeral from a distance were: her son, Arlie and daughter, Bessie of North Manchester, Indiana; Mrs. Beryl Patterson, Earl Homes, Mrs. Homer Caskey and Paul Virgil Caskey, of Omaha. Homer Caskey is ill in a hospital in Omaha and was unable to be present.
