1926 - 2018Mary Ellen Phillips was born December 13, 1926 to Everett Miles and Faye Belle Husted in the family home at Truro, Iowa. She was the fourth of five girls: Francis, Margaret, Roberta, Mary and (Beverly) Jo. She married Marvin (Shay) Phillips on December 24, 1944 in the Congregational Christian Church in Truro, the first couple to be married in the new church.
She and Shay had three children, Stephen (Connie Conlon) Phillips, Linda (Dean) Hutchison and Susan (Dan) Tronchetti. She is survived by her husband, her three children, six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and her sisters, Margaret and Jo, as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was a life-long resident of Truro where she was a member of the Christian Church. For many years, she and Shay were active with a large group of friends who played bridge regularly. She continued to play bridge as recently as three weeks before her death. She loved to sew; making her own wedding gown and later clothes for her daughters, including many dance costumes. She and Shay enjoyed many years of their retirement traveling in a motorhome, making new friends in Texas, Arizona and elsewhere.
She loved growing up on a farm and later living on the family's Century farm until the time of her passing. She was an avid gardener. She was a 4-H leader for 10 years and very active in support of all three children's many 4-H projects.
Mary donated her body to science through Science Care (sciencecare.com). She requested no service and the family will spread her ashes on the family farm. Memorials may be sent to the Truro Public Library (114E Center, PO Box 49 Truro, IA 50257).
She was deeply loved by her family and will be greatly missed.
