Charley Overton

Charley Matthew Overton, son of Marion Russell Overton and Lily Leona Rice Overton was born August 7, 1936 in Barney, Iowa and passed from this life Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at Skiff Medical Center at 81 years of age.

Charley received his education in the Afton and Osceola Schools. He was united in marriage to Ruby Luella Smith in October of 1955 and they were the parents of four children, Terry, Christy, Becky and Trish. Ruby Overton died in October, 1978. Charley was later united in marriage to Patricia Faye Simmerman in October 1979.

Charley enjoyed his work as a carpenter and working for Farm Service over the years. His true passion, however, was farming near Murray which he continued until his retirement in 2002 at which time he moved to Mingo.

In addition to farming, Charley enjoyed anything to do with International Harvester, deer hunting, fishing, spending time with family (especially the grandkids), giving tractor rides, riding his four-wheeler, woodworking and watching football. He was also a huge John Wayne fan and enjoyed westerns of any type. Above all else he will be remembered by friends and family as being a great jokester.

Those relatives who preceded Charley in death were his parents and grandparents; brother in infancy, Donald Overton; first wife, Ruby Luella Overton; son, Terry Overton; sister, Patty Deemer; brother-in-law, Bud Deemer; sister, Donna Houck; brother-in-law, Don Houck and nephew, Randy Deemer.

Charley leaves to cherish his memory; wife, Patricia F. Overton of Mingo, IA; daughters, Christy J. (Don) Noftsger of Colfax, IA, Becky S. (Roger) Perin of Mingo, IA, Trish A. Overton of Mingo, IA; daughter-in-law, Patricia Overton of Chariton, IA; grandchildren, Melissa Hines of Chariton, IA, Mechelle Noftsfer of Des Moines, IA, Katie Price of Kansas City, MO, Megan Overton of Colfax, IA, Matthew Noftsger of Colfax, IA, Cody Overton of Eldora, IA, Hannah Overton of Des Moines, IA, nine great-grandchildren; dear friend, Richard Blackburn of Osceola, IA as well as the Fleming Family, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
