Norma (Phillips) Woods, 85, of Corpus Christi, Texas, formerly of the Murray area, died Dec. 3, 2008, at the Trinity Towers in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Services were Dec. 10, 2008, at the Murray Church of Christ in Murray. Burial at the Murray Cemetery in Murray.

Norma Woods, daughter of Mabel (Carder) Phillips and Roy Benjamin Phillips, was born on Oct. 7, 1923, in Madison County. She graduated from Murray High School in 1941. She studied two years at Simpson College, earning her teaching certificate. She taught in Clarke County and Greene County.

On Dec. 23, 1944, Norma married Carl R. Woods at New London, Conn. They moved throughout the United States as the U.S. Navy re-stationed them frequently. They settled in Corpus Christi in 1993. Norma was a member of the Kings Crossing Church of Christ in Corpus Christi, and formerly the Murray Church of Christ. She was formerly served as a Girl Scout Leader and Cub Scout Den Mother, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Navy Wives Club, Garden Clubs, P.T.A., and the Clarke Co. Genealogical Society.

Survivors include her husband, Carl Woods, a daughter, Carol Elaine Woods of Rochester Hills, Mich., three sons, Philip (Vivian) Woods of Corpus Christi, Texas, Craig (Linda) Woods of Fleming, Ohio and Roger (Glenda) Woods of Walled Lake, Mich., six grandchildren, Wilson (Alicia) Woods, Clinton Woods, Evan Woods, Shawn Woods, Trevor Woods and Ryan Woods, two brothers, Wayne “Pinky” (Sally) Phillips of Murray and Dale Phillips of Bouton; a sister, June (Darrell) Flaherty of Murray.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Max Phillips.
