Kenneth Karl Miller, the son of Glenn Elmer Miller and Irene Mae (Adamson) Miller, was born at home on the family farm in Union County, IA. Kenny attended country school through the 8th grade and then Creston High School, graduating with the Class of 1947. One year later, Kenny was united in marriage to Colleen Mae Mayne on August 24, 1948 in Hiawatha, Kansas. The couple was blessed with five children: Rodney, Craig, Terri, Cyndy and Dan.
In 1952, Kenny joined the United States Army. He served his country during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Germany after his basic training. He received his Honorable Discharge in 1954. Upon his return to civilian life, Kenny returned home and began farming which would become his life’s passion. The couple farmed in both Union and Adams county most of Kenny’s life, with several years farming near Winterset. Kenny raised and fed cattle and hogs and grew corn and soybeans and other crops. He was a true steward of the land. Farming was a part of Kenny’s entire life and he enjoyed attending the cattle sales at various sale barns and working with his “cattle crew”.
Colleen and Kenny loved to travel and have vacationed all across the continental United States. They have been to Alaska, Hawaii and have also travelled in Europe. Kenny was a long-time member of the Elks Lodge and an outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He was known to be a master story-teller and took an interest in everyone he met.
Preceding Kenny in death was his sister, Phyllis; his infant brother, Dean; his parents and his mother and father in-law, Ruby and Eldon Mayne.
Kenny is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Colleen Miller , Kent, IA; his five children: Rodney (wife Roxanne) Miller, Galesburg, IL, Craig (wife Teresa) Miller, Gardner, CO, Terri (husband Benjamin) Chait, Iowa City, IA, Cyndy (husband Daryl) Hinton, Postville, IA and Dan (wife Sue) Miller, Lenox, IA; 19 grandchildren: Jason, Derek, Nathan, Stephen, Matthew, Sarah, Amy and Abbie; Joram, Ian, Seth and Shem; Jess and Chris; Luke and Cayley; Jacob, Amber and Jordan; 30 great grandchildren; two brothers-in-law: Gerald Mayne, and Gilmer (wife Reffa) Mayne, both of Creston, IA; sister-in-law, Sheryl Wilkie, Sacramento, CA.
Kenny’s greatest love was his family and he will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.
