Mrs. Elizabeth V. Devine, 85, of 1156 Twenty-fourth st., daughter of a pioneer Iowa family, died Monday of complication which followed after she broke a hip in a fall last July.
Mrs. Devine was born in 1865 in the covered wagon her parents were driving from Missouri to Iowa. She had been a Des Moines resident 56 years, having lived previously in Madison county.
She was a member of University Place Women’s Christian Temperance union, and Marquisville United Brethren church, where her son, the Rev. O. B. Devine is pastor.
Services for Mrs. Devine will be at 1:30 p. m. Wednesday at Evan Lilly’s funeral home, with burial in Glendale cemetery.
Mrs. Devine is survived by five other sons, Ed H. and Floyd, both of Des Moines, John of Truro, Glen of Iowa City, and Aubrey of Glendale, Cal., and three daughters, Mrs. Della Palmer and Mrs. J. M. Moore, both of Des Moines and Mrs. W. W. Wilburg of Fox, Ark.
Also three brothers, Frank Foreman of Winterset, Henry Foreman of Wallling, Wyo., and Pearl Foremen of Oklahoma; two sisters, Mrs. Margaret McCall of Des Moines and Mrs. Mary Sullen of Oklahoma; a nephew, Dr. Bennie Devine of Des Moines; 32 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren.
