Emily Jane, daughter of Wm. and Mary Holeman, was born in Park county, Indiana, July 18, 1854, and departed this life at her home in Murray, Iowa, June 7th, 1928, at the age of 73 years, 10 months and 19 days.

When but four years of age she moved with her parents to Madison county, Iowa, where she met Frank Brown, with whom she was united in marriage on the 13th of April, 1874. To this union five children were born: Elmer and Louis, of Murray, Charles of Osceola, Mrs. C. E. Hermance and Gussie, of Murray.

Her husband preceded her in death in 1895. Besides her children she leaves five grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Isabelle Guthrie of Creston, Mrs. Dorcas Helms of Ansley, Nebr., and a number of other relatives and friends.

At fifteen years she was baptized and united with the New Lite Christian church. Several years ago she united with the Methodist church remaining a faithful member of the same until death called her to that great reward which awaited her.

She has made her home in Murray for the past forty-five years, where she has made a host of friends. She was a kind, loving and faithful mother, a friend to all who knew her, and was every ready to lend a helping hand to the sick and to those in need.

Out of town relatives attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Helms and sons George and James, of Ansley, Nebraska; Mrs. Isabelle Guthrie, Mr. and Mrs. Claire Guthrie and daughter Margaret, of Creston; and Mr. and Mrs. George Holeman, of Lorimor.
