Letty Jane Gaston, daughter of Melvin Roy and Delma “Faye” (Davenport) Gaston, was born March 23, 1926, in Morrowville, Kansas. She grew up in Morrowville and graduated from Morrowville High School in 1944. She met and fell in love with Lester Gene Rhoads while he was stationed in Washington State and the couple were married on August 6, 1945, in Chehalis, WA. Lester died October 31, 1982, and Letty then married Elmer “Buck” Miller November 26, 1983, at the First Christian Church in Winterset. Elmer died October 2, 2017.
Letty was a loyal member of the First Christian Church where she was an active member and participated in the church’s Music Ministry having sung in the choir for many years. After her marriage to Elmer, Letty would attended services at the First Christian Church and St. Paul Lutheran Church every Sunday. Letty loved to sing, was a talented seamstress and loved tending the amazing flower beds in her garden. She also loved to dance, bird watch and tend to the kitties that were always at her back door.
During her working years she was a dedicated farmwife and homemaker raising her sons and helping Lester with all the work associated with living on a farm. In later years she worked at the IGA Grocery Store and Union State Bank both in Winterset. All this said, Letty was a gentle and kind woman who cherished the time spent with her family.
Letty is survived by her children, Bill (Linda Kay) Rhoads of Winterset, Bob (Bev) Rhoads of Winterset, and Jim (RoxAnn) Rhoads of Peru, Eugene (Darlene) Miller of Peru, Sherry (Dennis) Miner of Winterset, Marlan (Carla) Miller of Peru, 16 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 5 great great-grandchildren.
