Fredrick A. Baker was born in Warren county, Illinois March 10, 1845, and died at his home February 2, 1914, being 68 years, 10 months and 22 days old at the time of his death. He came to Iowa in the spring of 1871, settling in Madison county.

September 14, 1871, he was united in marriage to Kathrine E. Irvin. To this union were born six children, three of them living. Charles H. of New Virginia, Iowa, Wm. A. of Plattsmouth, Nebraska, and Theopholis of this neighborhood, together with a devoted wife are left to mourn the loss of a companion and father.

Fred, as we all knew him, bore his affliction with great patience, waiting for the summons from He who doeth all things well, saying all is well.

Three children had preceded him in death: Estella Huitt, Nannie and one infant son who are laid in the cemetery awaiting the great resurrection day when they may all be reunited in one family in the place where sorrows and troubles never come.

The deceased leaves a host of friends and neighbors who will sadly miss him as he was a good neighbor, always willing to lend a helping hand in sickness or health.

The funeral was held at Union church on Thursday conducted by D. A. White after which the body was laid to rest in the Union cemetery by the side of his children.
