John Bryan Reed, son of Oscar James Reed and Clara Patterson Reed was born in Madison county, Iowa, on February 1, 1897, and departed this life at his home in San Francisco, California, on February 17, 1969, at the age of 72 years and 16 days.

John received his education in the Clarke county schools and graduated from the Osceola High School with the class of 1920. He served with the Armed Forces during World War I. He was a member of I.O.O.F. Lodge.

On November 29, 1922, he was united in marriage to Agnes Oliphant and to this union one son, Wally Vernon Reed, was born.

John spent his early life farming in Clarke county and later had agency for Durant cars. Early in the 1940’s he moved to California where he was employed by the Leslie Salt Co. for over 20 years until his retirement.

His wife, Agnes, Mother, Father, and four brothers preceded him in death. Survivors besides his son, Wally, and daughter-in-law, Margie, of San Francisco, California, include his brother, Oscar Reed and sister-in-law, Nellie Reed of San Jose, California; sisters, Bernice Tompkins and Wilma Williams of Osceola; brother-in-law, Ralph Tompkins of Osceola; sisters-in-law, Beryl Reed of Weldon and Cleo Reed of Kingman, Arizona; nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Funeral services were held from the Chapel of the Valley at Castro Valley, California, on Wednesday, February 19, 1969, with the Reverend Sherwood Dally officiating and was laid to rest in the Lone Tree Cemetery at Hayward, California.
