Mollie Bumbarger

Mollie Myrtle Johnston, daughter of Martisha and Samuel Johnston was born March 3, 1887 at St. Charles, Iowa and departed this life on May 19, 1967 at the home of her daughter in Chariton, Iowa, where she had made her home the past 3 months. She was 80 years, 2 months and 16 days old.

Mrs. Bumbarger attended a rural school south of St. Charles.

On December 21, 1904 she was united in marriage to Harry Bumbarger of St. Charles. To this union two children were born, Garland and Everett.

She sudden death came as a shock to all who knew her.

Mrs. Bumbarger leaves behind her the beautiful memory of a good Christian life. She joined the Broadhorn Baptist church, where she has always been a faithful member. She was a devoted wife and a kind and loving mother. She was one who loved God’s great out of doors and enjoyed so much working in her yard and with her flowers. Her flower gardens were always beautiful.

She was happiest when doing for others and working in her church. She greatly enjoyed its fellowship.

Her entire life was spent in Madison and Warren counties on a farm.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and five sisters; Mrs. Tina Shigley of North Dakota; Mrs. Mattie Scott of St. Charles; Mrs. Merle McClure of New Virginia; Mrs. Jennie Sloan of Lowry City, Mo., and Mrs. Cora Knott of St. Charles; 1 infant brother and 1 brother Montimer, 14 years old. Besides her two children, Garland Reed and Everett Bumbarger both of Chariton, Iowa. She leaves to mourn her passing, her son-in-law, Clyde Reed and a daughter-in-law, Wilma Bumbarger of Chariton; two brothers, Truman and Raymond Johnston of St. Charles. She also leaves six grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren besides a host of other relatives and friends.

Mollie Bumbarger Dies at Chariton

Funeral services were held Sunday, May 21, for Mollie Bumbarger, 80, who died at Chariton, Iowa, on Friday, May 19. Rev. Cecil Murrow conducted the 1:30 p.m. services from the Broadhorn Baptist church in St. Charles.

Mollie Bumbarger was born March 3, 1887, in St. Charles, Iowa, daughter of Samuel and Martisha Johnston. She received her education in a rural school south of St. Charles. On December 21, 1904 she married Harry Bumbarger in St. Charles. Two children were born to this union.

She spent her life in Madison and Warren counties and was affiliated with the Broadhorn Baptist church during this time.

She is survived by her daughter, Mrs Garland Reed and son, Everett Bumbarger both of Chariton; son-in-law, Clyde Reed, daughter-in-law, Wilma Bumbarger; two brothers, Truman and Raymond Johnston of St. Charles; six grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Harry; parents and five sisters.

Interment was in St. Charles cemetery.
