Charles Raymond Deemer, age 96 of Weldon, son of Charles M. and Olive (Sams) Deemer, was born Dec. 30, 1913, in Madison County, and died Feb. 22, 2010, at Westview Acres in Leon.

Raymond grew up in the New Virginia, St. Charles, and Clarke County areas. He married Darlene Bonita Young on Dec. 31, 1938, in Grant City, Mo. To this union three children were born: Gareth Duane, Charla Marlene and Janeth Raye.

Raymond farmed near Weldon throughout his working years. He farmed with horses in his earlier years. Raymond’s life was farming, and being a provider and caregiver for his family.

Raymond and Darlene retired into Weldon in the mid-1970’s, and Raymond worked for son Gareth in his contracting business. Raymond liked walking uptown to visit, fixing things for people, and feeding the birds and squirrels. He was a generous man who helped others. Raymond enjoyed having his family around.

Raymond was a member of the Weldon United Methodist Church.

In recent years, Raymond and Darlene made their home in Leon.

Preceding Raymond in death were his parents, an infant brother; sisters Daisy Huddleson and Bertha Crawford; and stillborn twin granddaughters Alayne Lanette and Brianna Paige George.

Surviving are his wife of 71 years, Darlene Deemer, of Terrace Park in Leon, son Gareth Deemer and wife Connie of Weldon, daughters Charla Joy and husband Emett of LeRoy, and Jan George and husband Ted of Rockwell City; 9 grandchildren: Duane Deemer and wife Vici, Darla Miller, Carla Deemer, Boni Rhum and husband Rick, Bryan Joy and Laura, Belinda Hyland and husband Charles, Andrew George, Brendan George, and Niles George; 11 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; sister-in-law Geraldine Shaffer; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 26, 2010, at Slade-O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, with Rev. Lyle Ball and Rev. Max Carmichael officiating. Burial was at Hebron Cemetery near Weldon.
