Services Wednesday For E. O. Atkinson; Died Sun.

Funeral services for Elton O. Atkinson were held from the Trinity Methodist church, Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 conducted by the Miller Funeral Home. His pastor, Rev. O. J. Fix of the Trinity church assisted by Rev. C. C. Miller of the Christian church officiated. Mrs. Beulah McComas and Mrs. Inez Forney, with Mrs. O. J. Fix accompanist, sang his favorite songs “In the Sweet Bye and Bye” and “In The Garden.”

Interment was at Maple Hill cemetery.

Elton O. Atkinson, son of Geo. And Phebe Atkinson, was born in South Solon, Ohio, December 6, 1865 and passed away in the University hospital in Iowa City, Sunday, May 14 at the age of 78 years, 7 months and 8 days. He was the last of a family of three. One brother and one sister preceded him. He leaves to mourn his death five children, 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren and other relatives and friends.

He came to Iowa in early youth, and affiliated himself with the Friends church, later transferring his church membership to the Trinity Methodist church in Osceola, where he was janitor for many years. By occupation he followed farming until recent years when he lived in Osceola.

He was married February 22, 1893 to Mary O. Carver, who passed away in 1897. To this union two children were born, Herbert D. of Des Moines, Iowa and Mrs. Phebe Steele of Osceola. He was marriage again Sept. 3, 1901 to Myrtle Wirick who preceded him in death June 20, 1927. To this union were born four children, Don W. of Bremerton, Wash., Josephine, deceased, Mrs. Marie Carson of Osceola and Dale of Des Moines.

For nearly ten years he had been in declining health, making his home with the children. The last 17 days were spent in Iowa City where he received treatment for a broken hip. When the end came it was a going out in peace and calm.
