Edward F. "Buck" Lose

Edward Francis “Buck” Lose died after a brief illness at Mercy Hospital, Des Moines, on December 3, 2017. He was 90 years old.

Ed was born on April 12, 1927, in Cumming, Iowa to parents, Louis and Alice Lose. He attended Lincoln High School in Des Moines and served in the Navy during World War II. He married Mary Kathleen D’Arcy of Boston, Massachusetts, in 1949. Ed and Mary had nine children.

Ed was a welder for John Deere Des Moines Works in Ankeny and retired after 37 years. He was a member of the American Legion and the United Auto Workers. He was a life-long member of Christ the King Catholic Church, where he served as a steward. Ed enjoyed gardening, coaching his children’s baseball and softball teams and spending time with family and friends. He was also an avid Boston Red Sox fan.

Ed is survived by his loving wife, Mary; daughters, Mary Lose, Maureen (James) Wormuth and Jane (Patrick) Messerly; sons, Edward Jr., David, John, James and Mark Lose; thirteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Ann Johnston; sister-in-law, Barbara Lose; many nieces and nephews; and a host of other extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Jacqueline; brothers, Louis, Rob, Ralph and John; and his sisters, Bonita and Agnes.

Visitation will be held Friday, December 8, 2017 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street from 5 to 7 p.m. with a Rosary at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 9th at Christ the King Catholic Church, 5711 SW 9th Street. Ed will be laid to rest with military honors at St. Patrick’s Irish Settlement Cemetery in Cumming, Iowa.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Christ the King Catholic Church.
